What does AHEC stand for and what does this organization do in Alaska?

The acronym AHEC stands for Area Health Education Center. The statewide network of one program office and four centers work on the issues of healthcare workforce development, helping to ensure that an adequate healthcare workforce is available to provide needed services to medically underserved populations across the state.

Where is the Interior AHEC office located and who are the personnel?

The Interior AHEC office is hosted by and located in the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital. The personnel in the office are: Lillian Ruedrich, Director; Christy Wiskeman, Education Specialist, Kitty Griffin, Administrative Assistant, and Russ Amerson, Clinical Rotations Liaison.

How many AHEC offices are there in Alaska and where are they located?

Alaska’s main AHEC Program Office is at the UAA School of Nursing in Anchorage. Besides the Interior AHEC satellite office hosted by Fairbanks Memorial Hospital in Fairbanks, three other Alaska centers operate through the Yukon Kuskokwim Health Corporation in Bethel, Providence Hospital in Anchorage, and the SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium in Sitka.
