The Director of Interior AHEC is responsible for day to day operations, grant writing and administration of the only AHEC office in an area approximately 350,000 square miles in size. Retention in the healthcare professions is a priority for the Director and in addition to administration duties, this position has taken on the goal of continuing education needs assessment for rural providers. Coordination of continuing education courses, professional certifications, and conferences and workshops are part of the plan to reverse the net loss of healthcare professionals in Interior Alaska.

Capturing the interest Alaska's youth is paramount in the battle to correct Alaska's deficit of healthcare professionals. The Education Specialist is charged with the task of educating students in the seventh through the twelth grades in Interior public schools through Presentations, Job Fairs, Guest Speakers, Job Shadows and Summer Camps. Recruitment will prove to be more and more vital in AHEC's effort to erase the healthcare professional deficit in Alaska. Education is the key to AHEC's success in Alaska.

The Student Clinical Rotations Coordinator endeavors to secure student placements in medically underserved areas in Alaska. The Coordinator will arrange contracts, transport, housing and teachers for those students that require practical experience in a health care facility as part of their curriculum. In addition, the Coordinator works to increase the number of health care facilities in the Interior of Alaska that can support student placements.
